NEASC VISIT HIGHLIGHTS "REMARKABLE GROWTH" AT STAMFORD HIGH SCHOOL
In a powerful closing address to the faculty and staff, Carl Johnson, Associate Director of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), celebrated the conclusion of the school’s decennial accreditation visit. Reflecting on a journey that began during a "compliance-driven" visit in 2014, Johnson praised the school’s transformation into a growth-oriented community that prioritizes student success and authentic relationships.
The visit, which included classroom observations and meetings with SHS stakeholders (students, teachers, admin, SPS central office, Stamford BOE members), centered on the school’s progress across three key priority areas:
Vision of the Learner: The successful establishment of a "homegrown" framework built on four pillars: Communication, Critical Thinking, Growth Mindset, and Responsibility.
This will be a focal point for the 26-27 school year.
Curriculum Development: Significant strides in formalizing written curricula, particularly within the CTE and World Language departments.
Professional Development: A shift toward a "teachers-teaching-teachers" model that empowers educators and directly impacts classroom practice.
The visiting team concluded that the profound sense of community and the "extraordinary" relationships between students and staff remain the heartbeat of Stamford High School, providing a solid foundation for the innovations planned for the 2026-2027 school year.
***The full report will be shared with the entire SHS community, once received.***
